Filipino cuisine is known for its authentic flavors born out of a rich culture. Spiced up with influences from all over the world, it has evolved into a distinct way of life that has sparked interest amongst foodies, locals and foreigners alike.

There is a variety of dining options for different type of tourists available in the island, but a Boracay-trip will never be complete without trying the local foods. A year after opening its doors to the tourists, The District Boracay’s The Plenary has taken the dining experience to a new level with its elevated Filipino cuisines made affordable for all types of tourists. To give you a taste of what The Plenary has to offer, we’ve listed some classic Filipino comfort food that you can try on your next Boracay trip:

  1. Chicken Pork Adobong Puti

Adobo, from the Spanish word ‘adobar’ which means marinade may well be considered as the Philippine’s national food, a classic staple that you will find in every Filipino home’s dining table. While the more popular adobo is chicken or pork stewed in vinegar, soy sauce and garlic, The Plenary has deviated a bit and ditched the soy sauce and uses salt instead for a delicious sour and salty flavor. This is in fact the more authentic style of cooking adobo before it evolved into the dark adobo that we know today. This is best paired with plain rice.

  1. Bistek Tagalog

Another classic Filipino food is Bistek Tagalog, also known as beef steak. This dish is rich in flavors – stewed in citrusy calamansi juice, salty soy sauce, and sweet onions. Like other Filipino dishes, this goes well with rice.

  1. Quorn Torta

The quorn torta is your usual eggplant omelette made even healthier at The Plenary. While some uses meat to make a basic eggplant omelette special, The Plenary uses quorn grounds as meat substitute. Quorn is a meat substitute that is that is both nutritious and a great source for protein – perfect for all vegetarians out there!

  1. Crispy Lechon Binagoongan

The classic binagoongan is pork normally stewed in shrimp paste. An exciting version is served at The Plenary – where in a crispy lechon kawali or deep fried pork belly is served with grilled tomatoes, eggplant, and bagoong (shrimp paste) on the side. This is perfect for those who wants the rich taste of pork but would want to add some oomph with the salty taste of the bagoong.

  1. Crispy Pata

The famous crispy pata is an all-time Filipino favorite – an original of the Philippines. This deep fried pork knuckles may be enjoyed both as a main dish for lunch and dinner with rice and spicy dipping (soy) sauce or as a stand-alone side-dish over drinks. A perfectly cooked crispy pata is crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. It is best shared with a family and friends.
