Majority (if not all) of the world’s trash threatening the environment comes from human activities. We’ve seen turtles, fish, birds and even a whale with plastics around their neck, stuck in their nose, or worst – in their stomach. We’ve witnessed various calamities take thousands of lives in the blink of an eye. Actually – it is not just our wastes that contribute negatively to the environment, but also the regular things that we do.
Fortunately, we now have more options to embrace the green lifestyle. Being Eco-friendly is easy, and can even save you tons of money. Last time, we showed you 5 ways how you can ditch the use of plastics while on a holiday. Allow us to give you 5 other ways how you can live a greener life:
SHARE THE RIDE
We all look for comfort – that’s a fact. And whether we admit it or not, we’ll always go for that private boat or car ride during vacation – especially when we can afford it. However, it also means that you’ll be increasing your carbon footprint. When you share your ride, you lessen the amount vehicles emitting harmful carbon dioxide gasses. Carpooling or riding public transportation also gets you chance to meet new friends. But if you really can’t help it (when time is of essence or for security measures), make sure to offset your carbon footprint when you get home!
SAY NO TO TAKEAWAY FOOD
Simply put, cook your own food! Or when you’re on vacation – avoid ordering takeouts. This way – you are also eliminating the need to use disposable containers, paper plates, plastic cups and utensils. By making your meals and by using your own food containers, you’ll have healthier options and a lot less waste. Setting up your own meal plan is actually a very healthy way to help the environment!
RE-USE!
Recycling is probably the oldest practice to help the environment and it’s just practical to do so. There are a lot of ways and tutorials online on what you can do. Make it a weekend activity with your family as nothing beats entertaining kids with arts and crafts. You’ll keep waste from reaching the seas, save money, and get to have quality time with your loved ones all at the same time!
GO CRUELTY-FREE
Beauty products go through a lot of processes before they reach the shelves. And unknown to many of us, some companies test their products on animals. When buying these kind of products, make sure you choose your brand wisely. It’s a win-win – you get your desired holiday look minus the harmful tests on animals!

LEAVE NOTHING BUT FOOTPRINTS
We always hear this when visiting a tourist destination. This, in fact, should be every tourist’s mantra! When you’re someplace else, just keep in mind to respect the place the same way that you would want your guests to respect your home. Keep your trash in your pocket first, throw it in the proper bin later. It’s just a small inconvenience compared to how much better it will make our environment.
At the end of the day, whether you’re in Boracay or anywhere else, the little things that we do can make a huge difference. Let’s be the change we want to see in the world.
